In this quarters Orbital Technical Bulletin, we would like to highlight our experience with Cathodic Protection Design Services.
Cathodic Protection Design Services
Cathodic protection prevents corrosion on metal structures such as pipelines and storage tanks by converting all of the anodic (active) sites on the metal surface to cathodic (passive) sites by supplying electrical current (or free electrons) from an alternate source.
Orbital Engineering’s Cathodic Protection Capabilities
➢ Design and simulation of cathodic protection systems for:
- Underground pipelines, transmission and distribution systems
- Underground Tanks
- Bottom of above ground individual tanks or tank farms.
- Underground metallic structures at refineries, pump station, gathering systems, where pipeline distribution is non‐uniform, and complex anode’s spatial distribution is expected
- Gas and Oil Wells. The states of Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Iowa have extensive gas storage fields, where cathodic protection should be maintained
- Offshore structures
➢ CP installation inspection when NACE certified personnel is required
➢ Data analysis and providing conclusion and recommendation to clients, based on data acquired by others, for example, analysis of CIS, DCVG, ACVG (Close Interval Survey, Direct Current Voltage Gradient, Alternating Current Voltage Gradient) field survey data
➢ Client assistance on supervising and inspection of CIS, DCVG, ACVG, PCM (Pipeline Current Mapper “RadioDetection”) surveys for underground transmission and distribution lines
➢ Troubleshooting of existing CP systems
➢ AC mitigation field testing, before AC mitigation simulation is completed
➢ AC mitigation systems installation supervision and inspection
➢ Grounding systems design for AC mitigation systems, based on existing simulation
➢ AC mitigation systems commissioning
➢ CP annual surveys with field report with conclusions and recommendations
➢ DC interference studies, simulation, material specification, design, installation supervision and commissioning
